A pole barn lean-to is a single-slope, shed-roof structure attached to the side of your main building, and it is one of the most affordable ways to add covered space. Delmarva Buildings designs and builds custom lean-to’s for pole barns and post-frame buildings across Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, sized and finished to match the building they attach to.
A lean-to enhances the look of your building while adding usable space you can put to work right away. Since it provides shade, it can be used as a porch to sit by your building for leisure. A lean-to can also shelter firewood and lawn equipment, allowing it to stay dry in all kinds of weather, which makes it a practical covered storage option in every season.

A lean-to is a structure with a single-slope roof that attaches to the side of a larger building, using that building’s wall for support on one side. On a pole barn, a lean-to adds low-cost covered space for storage, shade, animals, or a porch without the cost of a fully separate building.
We recommend a 3/12 roof pitch minimum on a lean-to. The right pitch allows rain and snow to slide off the roof, keeping what is inside your lean-to safe and dry through Delaware and Maryland winters.
We offer lean-to widths from 6 feet to 20 feet using rafters, and we can build wider using roof trusses. That range lets a lean-to structure serve as anything from a narrow covered walkway to a full equipment or vehicle bay.
Yes. A lean-to can attach at the eave line of your existing pole building or below it, and it can be placed on any side. Delmarva Buildings can add a lean-to to a structure we built or to one built by another company after an on-site review.
Common uses include covered storage, firewood and lawn-equipment shelter, shade, a porch or leisure area, extra rooms, and livestock stalls. Because you choose the width and height, a lean-to can be matched to almost any residential, farm, or hobby use.
